Super MAGScouts 2023 Scope of Project Meeting
2023-03-09
Present: nate, Nate, Lauren, Sarah, Casey, Bluehat Dave, Rob, Cralls
- Review our Scope brainstorming homework - things called out in this doc are discussion beyond what we all agreed on in the scope sheet
- Justification - how to coalesce this into a mission statement/elevator pitch
- All on a similar page here, yay
- Inclusive term for parents - “kids and their adults”
- Scope -
- What are our responsibilities - liaison between depts/outreach to depts, and building comms for attendees. Also RESOURCES for content creators
- What should we be very clear and firm on not taking on? - we are responsible for providing the opportunity for fun, we are not responsible for your fun
- Objective -
- What are our goals? - How do we reconcile MAGScouts with “PG-15”
- Why did we choose 15 specifically (not historically, why do we remain married to it now). What does it mean re: enforceability, content guidelines?
- Inclusive vs. exclusive boundary? Can we ask the org to better define this as an exclusive constraint (nothing worse than 15, vs everything should be for 15+ ages)
- What do we want to provide to the community?
- STEAM education that may not otherwise be accessible to youth
- Nintendo contact?
- Deliverables -
- What tangible (or digital) deliverables can we realistically provide to Staff?
- Easy to use tangible assets and easier accessible answers to question attendees may be answering about MAGScout content
- What tangible (or digital) deliverables can we realistically provide to attendees?
- “Making community and then pointing people towards it” - have a space at MAG (i.e. tabletop area) and a nudge to join the community (flyer/card to direct to website). Teach the creators/presenters to answer this question.
- What tangible (or digital) deliverables can we realistically provide to the greater community?
- Clarity to attendees
- Easily identified and tagged content in Guidebook
- Access to educational content
- Should we liaise with other departments? Seek our own?
- Bring educational opportunities outside Super will naturally flow from Super content (A MAGPowered event specifically for fulfilling an educational purpose) - part of greater 5+ year plan?
- Can also be part of providing greater accessibility to community who cannot attend Super
- Constraints -
- What is currently holding us back or blocking us from achieving the above?
- Leadership structure
- PG-15
- What do we anticipate to be a blocker as we move forward?
- Internal and external community buy-in
- Assumptions -
- What assumptions or personal expectations do we have right now?
- What are our expectations of ourselves? Of each other? MAGFest as an org? Of our attendees / consumers / community?
- What are our expectations of ourselves? Of each other? MAGFest as an org? Of our attendees / consumers / community?
- HONEST AND FREQUENT COMMUNICATION
- Other random MAGScouts thoughts
- “Young and young at heart”
- Should we be vetting the content more aggressively this year? We’re going to be blamed even if we explicitly state we’re not responsible for the content
- Action items:
ACTION ITEM: Distill brainstorm into Mission Statement (BlueHat Dave by April 1)
ACTION ITEM: Signing up for MAGCon Presentation and Breakout and Tour of the Kingdom Meeting (Nate M)
