Attendees: Alyssa, Nate G, Nate, Kevin, Chris, Lauren, Rik
Notes: Nate
- B-stage meeting happened, it might be in the Jamspace location, Jamspace and clinic moving around, and there may be more DH openings - see bstage minutes for more information
- We and the attendees want more jampods!
- More DJ volume ones specifically!
- Metroid Metal and some other bands literally formed in a jampod
- jampods are a core part of many people’s experience
- Chris and Kevin’s notes and experience from 2024
- starting to build a good working strategy for managing the jampods
- feedback this year was largely positive (excepting DJs)
- starting to build a staff, some for several years, some have stated intent to return
- feedback wants more structure, less of a free-for-all
- only 1 loud space, and it is the electronic-only DJ spot, so no good space for brass/loud!
- people don’t know what to expect, or don’t understand the volume level rules
- maybe expand the website FAQ to help clarify
- also put it all on social media
- Hallway noise/Enforcement - there are some attendees who jam quietly in unused corners - it feels bad to tell them to stop
- If they’re not creating a problem/not in the way, maybe we can leave them
- Jampod staff could literally write them a hallpass they could use to show that they were checked and approved to hang out if someone like security comes to stop them?
- How do we make jampod staff the arbiters of what is okay, and what is not? Take organic jams off security’s radar
- We should be as permissive as possible, not needlessly restrictive
- Jampod team needs a home base - where can they store stuff, where can they hand off keys
- Staff sign-in location at Clinic was okay, but sometimes was difficult because staffers sometimes turned away the jampod staff signing in because they misunderstood and the space was full
- Clinic does not currently have a room for them
- lauren - MIVS has 2 reg desks for storage and has only been using 1, if we’re using all of them MIVS could potentially give jampod one of theirs - a jampod infodesk window
- Budget request 2025
- Expanding budget for drum mutes and other volume control tools
- Portable backline - Jamclinic wants to mobile cart of equipment and a flag, jamclinic could send forth jammers to a jampod
- liability for handing attendees a cart full of gear - would have to send a staffer with cart
- People who are bringing their own gear tend to want to be as loud as possible and its BAD - so giving them our gear and a staffer to supervise it is nice.
- Staffing 2025:
- Jampods wants more people - Fri and Sat evening were busier, they could get more vols on shift at that time
- Some returning vols but need more people
- Need assertive people who are happy walking around, talking to people, and can cheerfully enforce rules
- Turn the handbook into a 1-pager they can hand new vols as a quickstart training guide
- “we need it to be as round as possible. anarchically round. spiritually round”
- During layout conversations with the org and div heads, we must advocate for jampods, awareness that we need to preserve and allow for LOUD spaces.
- Expo C DJ jampod:
- Staffing it - indie arcade used to just manage it, we are interested in relinquishing control over to jampods and having their staff more actively manage it
- Chris is definitely on board to have his staff do this, or even have a dedicated shift manning it
- Noise -
- We should get limiters/a DBX rack to control their max volume
- Jampod vs tournament space - sharing is hard
- Attendees want it loud all the time, but they also want a stage, and the jampod is not a stage. We are not going to cordon off a dance floor for their audience.
- DJs are using it as a stage - this is a solo performance not a jam, or more of a busking experienced
- Jampod could go where soapbox was outside A?
- Nate did this, security and consoles werent fans
- IF LTC moves out, indie tournaments could move to the LTC wall, and jampod could have their space without sharing in the back - could be used 24/7 and loud after MIVS Core Hours
- we lose the collab magic (Crab Volleyball tourney x DJ) but we could literally just invite a DJ to come play those tournaments
- people who are upset about this jampod and its volume-
- mivs staff - its too loud for too long
- can we move it? yes if fangamer leaves the hall. get it further away from ops
- can we point the speakers away from the mivs ops booth
- Why is it in the hall, it could have been a game
- Sock’s visualizer makes it an interactive technology piece
- marketplace vendor - we should put it on the arcade wall
