Attendees: Lauren, Nate, Matt, Socks
Notes (for questions and complaints): Nate
Agenda:
- Check on submissions
- 28 games
- 5 of these are IA
- 1 (Qualia) applied to both
- Next steps for getting on official mag socials
- we have a bsky for ia and mivs, post on both for now, talk about merging with the initiative team - is there enough granular stuff we tweet that only applies to 1 team to justify keeping 2? probably not.
- matt to write copy for the main mag team
- Review initiative survey results
- 13 responses - we should bump it again in disc, maybe email blast
- columns without owner:
ia curation, jam, guests, gallery, merch, linewobbler, website, kiosk, contractors,
- missing responses i'd expect: tyler, frank, flan, emily, angela, grav
other ppl who said they might want to help: matt arroyo, amanda
- we need to email, bump discord post, and then reach out to people who said they were interested in owning, confirm and assign
- meet with them and set expectations
- plan to set a meeting with megacat, probably all contractors soon-ish
- outreach initiative should have a goal of scouting new contractors 1 year out (2028)
- outreach should also be trying to find school groups
- Check start dates for all initiatives
- contractors, guests, game jam asap
- some like merch would be good now, lots to plan and no dependencies stopping us
- Talk about managers
- separate job from initiative leaders
- not necessarily working pre-event
- Talk about how DHs work
- do we want to silo/divide and conquer?
- we still want initiative touchbase meetings
- other staffers could run them, if we can’t make one, opportunity for them to try leading
- we don’t need all 4 of us in every meeting
- Bi-weekly meeting for the large group
- veto Tuesday and Friday
- maybe Weds or Sunday? poll after we have initiative leaders
- heads meetings can stay 5:30 tuesday/other weeknight
- What would make you happy?
- Matt: want to go into next year knowing there are big projects that we didn’t have to do the work on. That other people owned it and we didn’t have to be the ones to do it. something cooler in screens on our space. better presence outside expo whether it’s on screens or magtv or something. a lot of things last year had our fingerprints on it and I would love to see things that actually managed to run themselves. I want to log into one of our bi-weekly meetings and see someone who is excited to talk about the amount of tactile work they did on an initiative. a community leadership type thing
- Nate: i like leading my little meetings and taking my little notes that show the initiatives are moving and action items are getting done. i get sad when i go down the list and nothing has changed. and i care deeply about the school groups stuff still happening
- Socks: Want to be sure we’re keeping things to a timeline and killing projects by a drop date
- a goal for the next year: as part of having other people run initiatives, we can focus on doing things only we can do. because we understand how things work within the higher org and because of our position in the org.
- its useful for the DHs to meet to ask and answer questions like this
- we want to go back to taking big swings and thinking about things that only we can do bc of the trust weve built and organizational knowledge we have
- travel fund
- rental pcs
- commissioned game
- Megacat contract. Need to take a look at figure out numbers and benefits that make sense for them.
- the default starting point is $3k / 4 badge / 1 room if they are a full truck of content
Action items:
- matt - ask socials team to post copy about submissions
- socks - reach out to LAN about their pc rentals, and if there is a world that they either put us in touch with their contract or if they can just rent like 4 extra PCs for us to use for devs who can’t bring one/have an emergency
- nate - discord changes
- contractor channels to talk to them in our space
- role locked categories/channels for curation teams
