Meeting Notes:
- Any updates on Reggie?
- Current rumor is Aug 1, but nothing concrete yet
- Indie Outreach Updates
- Luigi and Travis made some awesome email templates to send out
- Marc’s been directing rando emails coming through the MIVS list to our mailing list
- Judging
- Turns out judging feedback form was not sent out this year
- Scoring Games
- Current text to judges: You'll be giving the games a score from 1-10 based on three categories: Show Readiness - how ready the game appears to be when shown to the public. This means the degree of visual and audible asset completion as well any programming bugs. Overall Design - how well the judge feels that the game addresses its own central concept. (I.e. If it is a puzzle game, are the puzzles good? If it is a narrative-driven game, is the story compelling?) Overall Enjoyment - how enjoyable was
- What can we do to assist judges in understanding what we’re looking for?
- Adding some text to judging things that say “show readiness doesn’t necessarily mean the game is finished” could be helpful
- Vision of MIVS 2024 Showcase
- “For attendees: good booths, fun games, nice devs. Genre diversity is a bonus. For devs: Player feedback, exposure, networking with other devs”
- Polished games vs In Progress
- Do we have some examples of games in various stages of development, especially early
- Emphasizing MIVS as a feedback-oriented event could be helpful in our outreach
- General Timeline for submissions/judging
- Would like to keep the submission window open as long as possible, but would also like acceptance to go out early enough for devs to make plans
- Is 3 weeks enough time or too long of a time? Would 2 weeks work? For those who judged previously, what are your thoughts?
- 3 weeks feels good because it leaves time for completion if you get busy
- Is 2 weeks too much time to accept as a dev? Is 1 week too short?
- 2 is fine. 1 is probably also fine, but add clear verbiage that we will be moving on to the next game. Also send a reminder 2 days before.
- Could use verbiage about MIVS being unique to encourage people to actually respond
- Extra Items
- Kotey posted a draft of the Indie Handbook. Check it out and leave comments!
- Next week we’ll be talking about initiatives. What you want to do, what you want to learn, etc. so be ready to dive in and talk about stuff!
