Meeting Notes:
- Submissions are OPEN!!!
- Continue Outreach. Stress the deadline.
- 10 games from 8 studios so far!
- Marc’s going to send the email blast
- Preflight call for assistance
- Tyler, Jake, John, Kotey all interested
- Judges
- We have plenty, but if you know someone who you think would be a good addition and is interested, reach out to Marc
- How can we better educate judges that their feedback goes straight to devs and that should be something actionable rather than emotional, etc.?
- A checkbox of whether to send it to the devs or not
- Put the “this will be sent to the devs” text in big bold font
- Extra comment box for feedback directly to MIVS?
- Add text about if you have feedback for MIVS, send us an email
- Add something about feedback can’t be sent if they include personal/emotional items (will need to wordsmith)
- Make it as simple as possible! Text box should be “What would you like to say to the developers?” or “Feedback for Developers”
- Core Hours Discussion
- Are there exceptions (MAGFast, Versus, presenting at a panel) and what might that look like?….
- If they need to be gone for an hour to run another MAGFest activity, do we station a volunteer at the booth, ask them to have a backup person, take the game down, sign in/out and we keep an extra eye out, have them put a sheet over their stuff, etc.?
- What we’re essentially selling with our showcase is having the dev there on-site to answer questions about their game during core hours.
- Would be best if they plan to run a panel, etc., they should have someone else as a backup to run their booth while they’re gone.
- Have indies inform us if they are indeed running something so we can signal boost and also be prepared to help direct attendees to their game on the floor
- Concern about making it very clear that these are specific exceptions and not just “there’s something I want to go see”
- Proposal that maybe it makes sense to be more lenient on presence during Core Hours because is it fair for someone to leave for an hour to run a panel, but not leave for an hour to go have lunch? If they can have their game running the same as if it was a 24 hr set up, is that ok?
- Jake: maybe we don't need to worry about devs manning their booths, if we can trust that people who are showing their games want to maximize their face time with the attendees regardless
and core hours would be like "you need to make sure your game is running during these hours, whether you're standing there or not"
- Maybe the least we can do is not force them to come to ops to run to the bathroom unless you want someone to watch it. It’s ok to leave your booth unattended to run to the bathroom etc. as long as you’re comfortable with no one actively watching your stuff
- New Business / Q&A Time
- Kotey: Versus is not happening this year. Taking 2024 off to regroup. So for Tournaments and Multiplayer, finding Versus candidates is one less thing we have to focus on. We could pull games that don’t quite make the showcase cutoff, but would be good for things like MAGFast and send them their way.
- Marc: MAGtv - Could we poll the indies and let them know if they have anything they want to send to MAGtv, that they can create something to send in? Something more polished than our MIVSFit clips.
- Got an email from someone asking to join as a new volunteer! Consensus is, why wouldn’t we want more volunteers? The more, the merrier!
Action Items:
- Marc: Send email blast to mailing list
- Lauren: Post call for pre-flight help to Slack and get access for those interested
- Lauren: Reach out to MAGtv and find out their deadlines for submitted content and also ask about how we could potentially use MIVSFit game trailers
