Meeting Notes:
-
Judging update
- Trogba
- This is a port of the Trogdor Homestar Running game and uses their assets. Emailed last week to verify they have permission, but haven’t heard back.
- Remove judges and disqualify unless they answer tonight
- Creature of War
- Has a Steam demo coming out Tuesday
- Last emailed Marc that they would try to get him one by end of today, but haven’t heard back
- Disqualify from Judging
- ALCHEMAZAM (Online)
- Kotey’s been going back and forth with dev. The game is not housed by the dev on their own server. To play the game on Untapped or Tabletop Simulator (which costs $), you need to upload all the assets yourself. Also has assets that belong to other IPs. Kotey would not recommend because way too involved for judges for the 15 min allotment we require.
- Disqualify from Judging
-
Preflight Post-Mort - Pain points and changes for next year
- Better language around not requiring paid software to run games
- On Reggie page, can’t determine which system the codes are used for. Can we add a field?
- Fields for platforms and multiplayer should be imported or not filled out by Preflight team or filled out by dev on submission form
- Confusion over what the purpose of the video was for. If it’s just for MIVSFit, do we really need continuous gameplay, etc.?
- Outdated from when we used to do an initial round of trailers acceptance. Probably don’t need to be as strict on this anymore.
- Be better about explaining it’s used as an arcade attract mode screen on MIVSFit (and in future, MAGtv?)
- Asked one of the judges if they felt it was useful to see how the dev sees their game
- Would like to prevent micromanagement of the devs as much as possible. Can real trailers be accepted?
- This doesn’t seem fair when compares to other submissions
- Split on whether or not this is ok, but general consensus we can have better explanation to devs of what we use the videos for
- Can we just ask for a screen recording of the game being played instead?
- Do we need the videos up front?
- Do we wait to gather screenshots and videos later in the checklist?
- Do we leave the video section off of preflight? Do we also remove for judges?
- Let’s put that question on the judging feedback form
- Column about contacting dev to fix an issue. Are we asking preflighters to email the dev?
- We should keep all communication coming from MAGFest emails. Assign one or two point people
- Code Fields
- Is number of codes provided field useful? and Is which code used valuable?
- Yes
- We should standardize how many codes we’re asking for and have some way of enforcing it
- Already have this, but can be buggy
- Bigger discussion for later
-
Interdepartmental Participation
- MAGScouts - How do we want to participate?
- List of games? Individual signage? One big sign? Etc.
- Let’s tag MIVS in guidebook
- Let’s add it as a checklist item for devs to self-identify if we can. If not, let’s just copy arcade’s signage
- MAGtv - Who wants to own a project?
- MAGFast - It’s a waiting game
- Large Tournament Collider
-
