MAGFest, Inc. believes in creating and maintaining a volunteering environment in which boundaries between personal and professional interactions are clear. Should a volunteer have or develop a relationship outside of a working relationship with another volunteer, employee, contractor, consultant, guest, or supplier for whom they can influence the scope of work (including but not limited to duties, responsibilities, working conditions, volunteer status, compensation, or perks), it is expected that they disclose the relationship to the Director of Volunteer Infrastructure (Faith Savill, [email protected]) at the soonest convenient opportunity. This is in order to minimize the potential for acts of preferential treatment, lack of objectivity, misuse of authority, or any harassing behavior.

MAGFest also encourages volunteers to build relationships and partnerships with other organizations. However, if a volunteer has a relationship with an organization that prevents them from performing a task or making a decision objectively, that relationship constitutes a conflict of interest.

We trust our volunteers to act ethically with respect to their positions in the organization, and request that they proactively address any potential issues by recusing themselves or seeking the guidance of the Director of Volunteer Infrastructure in cases where their objective judgment may be impacted by said relationship. Potential conflicts of interest will be handled on a case-by-case basis and may involve departmental reassignments if conflicts occur.

If you are faced with and are unsure how to handle a situation that you believe has the potential to violate this code of ethical conduct, please notify the Director of Volunteer Infrastructure (Faith Savill, [email protected]).
