Makerspace volunteers should be invited to the MAGFest Slack. We use the #super-makerspace channel for public-facing discussion within the organization. We also have a #makerspace-heads channel for sensitive topics such as discussions about a staffer.
In general, conversations should be had in the most open channel feasible.
The Makerspace works closely with the Panels department to coordinate panel and workshop submissions. As a general rule, panels that are hands-on, require table space, or are related to maker/cosplay/art & craft topics are managed by the Makerspace and hosted in our classroom space.
Panels that are topically relevant but are not interactive may still be managed by the Panels department, especially if they are expected to draw a larger audience than our classroom can accommodate.
The Makerspace also works with the Cosplay department by helping cosplayers repair costumes as our skills and supplies permit. If we cannot help a cosplayer, we point them to the Cosplay department’s Cosplay Repair table in the Expo Hall.
The Makerspace is located in the Eastern Shore rooms. They are divided into Eastern Shore 1 (Panel room) and Eastern Shore 2/3 (Lockpick Village, Social Space, Freeplay, and Demo space)
The Demo space is an area for local members of local Makerspaces to show off member creations to attendees, promote their makerspaces, and do drop-in projects.
