Our name derives from the old cartoon “Voltron”, and much like a giant robot, it takes a bunch of different people and skills to come together to make something cool.

Our work can be broken down into two main categories:
1. BROADCAST + RECORDING
Mediatron streams and records the main concert hall performances at MAGFest events as well as Panels content that happens at the event, both of which are later uploaded to YouTube.
For BROADCAST + RECORDING, Mediatron members are expected to work alongside folks with similar talent specializations like our friends at TechOps + A/V, as well as our friends working in the Panels dept, MAGTV, Gaming and elsewhere.
2. PHOTOGRAPHY + DYNAMIC VIDEO
Mediatron handles requests from our fellow departments to help document their presence at MAGFest events and create a photographic record for archival and publicity purposes. Additionally as the rise of short-form video and social media has evolved, so too has the need for punchy and dynamic shots for use in short form video.

Much of the work we publish will be used as part of publicity and marketing pushes for future MAGFest events, and working with our various departments to ensure no one is left without a visual record as well as social media teams to provide them the assets and content they need to do their work.

We do generally ask that Mediatron members provide most of their own camera equipment; you know your own gear best, gear can be expensive, and any Mediatron equipment available for dispatch is going to be of limited availability.

For MAGWest, Mediatron has a homebase (aka “The Lion’s Den”) shared with TechOps in the Zinfandel room, and our equipment will be set up and torn down daily throughout the event space in Panel Rooms, the Variety Stage, Main Stage, Pool Party and Jam Space
