About Governance Committee
The Governance Committee is a subcommittee of the Board that helps keep the Board focused, accountable, and moving forward. The purpose of this group is to make sure that the board functions well, that board leadership roles are thoughtfully filled, and that MAGFest’s corporate structure supports both current operations and long-term goals.
Objectives: What the Governance Committee Will Do
- Member Recruitment: Help identify and bring in board members who align with MAGFest’s values and goals.
- Officer Appointment: Create a clear system and timeline for how officers are nominated, appointed, and evaluated, keeping the process transparent and fair.
- Goal Support & Check-ins: Help propose and assign timelines for board and committee goals that are achievable and mission-aligned, and follow up on progress intermittently.
- Board Assessment: Organize board assessments to reflect on what’s working, what’s not, and how to improve.
- Charter Updates: Make sure that all committee charters are current and accurate.
- Bylaw Alignment: Confirm that all processes—recruitment, assessments, charters—align with MAGFest’s bylaws, recommending changes to the board where appropriate.
Timeline & Commitment
- Meetings: The Governance Committee will meet once a month to check in on progress and prep for what’s next.
- Board Involvement: Members may attend 1–3 board meetings per year, especially when planning, projections, or accountability check-ins are on the agenda.
- Accountability Culture: The Governance Committee will call out when things aren’t getting done and help keep the board on track.
Communication & Accountability
After each Governance meeting, the Governance Committee will send a Slack update or summary notes to the board.
