We are not in a rush to transfer all gear over into the new bins. Here are some guidelines for when and how to acquire new gray bins:
- Moving items from cardboard boxes or other sub par storage containers
- This is the first priority, regardless of department.
- Let the warehouse manager know when you would like to transfer gear
- New bins are bought by the pallet and can take up room
- We want to make sure transfers are done prompt if planned for a warehouse work day
- Bins can also be acquired during load out from Super, if that works better to transfer gear
- If department gear is being transferred from an existing bin (cardboard box, husky, pelican, really useful box) to a new gray bin, the warehouse will cover the cost of the new bin.
- We are able to reuse or resell old bins that we no longer need as we move to the new system.
- If a department needs more storage bins then the cost of new bins will fall on the department for new storage needs.
- This can be estimated and requested during annual TotK and budget discussions.
As we continue to transfer to a more standardized storage method the manager needs staff to understand the space they have for storage. There are limits to the amount of gear that can be stored, and large or odd shaped items can be an issue if they are not properly planned for.
