BIPOC Perspective Group

Black Indigenous People of Color Perspective Group

Launched Spring 2024

Board Purpose:

To gain insight and understanding from the impacted BIPOC demographic at MAGFest for strategic decision-making and overall comprehension for aspects of MAGFest that need to be more equitable and fair. This serves as an informal “temperature check” to identify areas for improvement.

Group Purpose:

To build community with one another and to also align with the board while exploring different topics to gain perspectives and experiences of BIPOC individuals at MAGFest.

Initial Goal Setting:

The board seeks individuals interested in joining the group who can independently facilitate it and report back on their findings. We aim to recruit a few strong leads from the BIPOC community, particularly those with long-term experience at MAGFest, to help establish the framework and welcome more members once it’s set up.

The group will connect BIPOC individuals from various backgrounds at MAGFest to share experiences and foster mutual support. It will establish core agreements for participation in meetings, outlining how members can engage.

The group will also determine the frequency of meetings, with a minimum of quarterly meetings with the board. We anticipate organizing breakout sessions and panels during MAGCon and other sponsored events (Super, West, Stock, etc.). Slack will be utilized as a platform for ongoing dialogue and feedback.

Long-Term Goal Setting:

Reporting Back to the Board:

Understanding how BIPOC individuals are treated at MAGFest and regularly sharing insights on the unique challenges they face.

Meetings will occur quarterly, with the aim of identifying a spokesperson to present findings, even if they reflect positive developments.
